Gothamite is a weekly column that features all the easter eggs, references, and teasers for Fox’s DC Comics show, Gotham. Gothamite is the term journalists use for New York City, the real-world Gotham City.

  • The name of the drug in the episode is called Viper, which is also the name of a DC Comics character; but the big easter egg and potential foreshadowing was when the doctor referred to Viper as an early stage for the drug Venom. Venom is the drug that transforms Bane into the massive villain he’s known to be.
  • Alfred keeps calling Bruce a detective, which is foreshadows Bruce’s future as the World’s Greatest Detective.
  • Gordon heads to Warehouse 39, which could be a reference to Batman’s debut in the Detective Comics in 1939.
  • The first victim on Viper (precursor to Venom) took the store clerk’s “bat” and broke it in half is a reference to Bane breaking Batman’s back–“breaking the bat”.
  • That same clerk called the victim Zeus and the victim told the clerk to not “vex [him] mere mortal”, which is definitely a reference to the DC Comics character Maxie Zeus, who believes he is the god Zeus.
  • Before the news report came on, Bruce was watching Zorro. That’s his favorite movie in the comics.
